Jelly Bears

Our Jelly Bears room is a bright, lively, cosy play space for a group of six older toddlers.

There are two members of staff caring for the children aged between two years and two and a half.

The staff plan activities for the children to participate in using the Birth to Three Matters framework, which allows for open planning taking the lead from the children and their current interests.

The Jelly Bears have access to a variety of materials and equipment which encourage and promote their all round development.

The children begin to play together more around the age of two; simple games are introduced such as matching pairs and board games. This encourages language, turn taking, problem solving and helping others.

Creative and malleable activities include soil and mud pies, jelly swamps, spaghetti play, sand & water, painting with hands, toes, brushes or sponges, sticking, box modelling, music, dressing up and dancing.

The children may start toilet training at this age, the staff take the lead from the child and encourage and praise their successes with stickers, potty time stories and the opportunity to re-enact bathroom time with dolls and teddies.

Your child's individual progress and achievements will be carefully monitored and recorded by a key worker who will add photos, written accounts and reports of your child learning through play to a folder. A daily information sheet will be displayed on the Jelly Bears parent's notice board.
